Hydrilla

Hydrilla

What Hydrilla Looks Like:

Hydrilla is a perennial plant that forms dense colonies and can grow to the surface in water over 20 feet deep. Hydrilla branches profusely and after reaching the surface it extends across it forming thick mats. Hydrilla can reproduce by fragmentation, from seeds, from turions (axilary buds), and from tubers. Leaves are blade-like about 1/8 inch and 3/8 inch long with small tooth margins and spines on the underside of the midrib which make them feel rough. Leaves are usually 4 to 8 in a whorl.

How to Treat Hydrilla:

Short Term Solution:

Pond Weed Defense

Mix the following in a tank sprayer:
This solution treats 5,000 square feet
-1 gallon Pond Weed Defense
-2 gallons Water

How to Apply: Mix according to directions into a sprayer. Spray the mixture to the plant's surface until it becomes blue-ish purple.

Long Term Solution:

WhiteCap

Mix the following in a tank sprayer:
This solution treats 1/4 surface acre
-8 oz WhiteCap
-Fill the rest of the tank sprayer with water

How to Apply: Mix according to directions into a sprayer. Place the nozzle of the sprayer underneath the water surface. Disperse the product in ten different spots in a 1/4 acre pond.

Please Note: It is important to use Nature's Blue Pond Dye with the WhiteCap application. This not only will let you know how well the WhiteCap is staying in the pond, but it will also shade the WhiteCap from being broken down by the sunlight.
